Royal Regional Water Commission:
Vulcan County, along with the Town of Vulcan, the Village of Carmangay, and the Village of Champion, is a member of the Royal Regional Water Committee, which is in the process of becoming a commission. This committee has been working towards regionalizing the provision of piped potable water.
With support from the Province of Alberta’s Water For Life program, a pipeline from the Town of Vulcan to the Village of Champion and south to the Village of Carmangay is under construction, and is expected to be complete this summer.
The next phase of the project is the design and construction of a regional water treatment plant for the system. It is expected that this plant will be built within the next three years.
The development of a regional pipeline and treatment plant will ensure high quality and safe drinking water for the region for years to come.
We will be celebrating an upcoming milestone for the project, at the Turning on the Taps Ceremony which has not been scheduled yet.
Water Licences:
The Royal Regional Water Committee is currently not seeking allocations of water under licence, but may in the future be interested in purchasing licences to be diverted from NW35-15-26-W4M.
Any person or corporation owning and wishing to transfer and sell water licence held in good standing located in the Bow or Oldman River Drainage Basin and on the Highwood or Little Bow River through the works of the Little Bow River Diversion can please contact the County office. We may be interested in purchasing such licences in the future.
