Signs and Traffic Control Devices

Vulcan County Bylaw # 961 authorizes payment of a reward in the amount of $250.00 to be paid to the person providing information to Vulcan County or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for defacing, mutilating or removing any traffic control signs installed on any public highway, road, street or lane under the control and management of Vulcan County.

 


Animal Control

Vulcan County Bylaw # 2005-010, Animal Control Bylaw, is provided for the regulatory and/or control of dogs and any other animals within Vulcan County. This Bylaw is very lengthy and may be viewed here.

 

 


Weights and Load Limits

Vulcan County Bylaw # 2004-009, provides for the establishment of weight/load limits on the highways and roads within the jurisdiction of Vulcan County. This Bylaw also provides for the entering into a Road Use Agreement between Vulcan County and a person or carrier to transport overweight loads during road restriction periods. This Bylaw is also comprehensive and may be viewed here.

 

 


General Traffic

Vulcan County is authorized to utilize a Special Constable to enforce the Alberta Traffic Safety Act and Regulations regulating all vehicular movement on it’s roadways.

 

Speed Limits within the County are:

(1) 100 km/hr. on paved, oiled or chipped surfaces, unless otherwise posted;
(2) 80 km/hr. on all other surfaces such as gravel, unless otherwise posted, and
(3) 50km/hr. in construction zones, unless otherwise posted;
(4) ONLY 30 km/hr. in the entire Hamlet of Brant.

 

The major causes of motor vehicle accidents within the County are:

(1) Failing to obey traffic control devices, (ie: Yield Signs, Stop Signs, etc.)
(2) Failing to drive for existing road and weather conditions,
(3) Excessive Speed, and
(4) Failure to wear Seat Belts.

 

 


Unsightly and Untidy Property

Vulcan County utilizes the authorities granted under the Municipal Government Act to deal with Untidy and Unsightly properties. A designated officer of the County may issue a written notice requesting the property owner to remedy the untidy/unsightly premises. Failure to comply with the written request will result in a Written Order directing the property owner to remedy the situation within a specified time frame. Failure to comply with the Written Order will result in a Court Order directing the County to remedy the situation and apply all related costs to the property taxes.

 

 


Miscellaneous

Vulcan County Policy requires written approval should you require (1) an additional approach onto a County road, and (2) water, electrical or any other type of road crossing.
